Beginners Guide To Affiliate Marketing
Friday, August 21st, 2009Making money on the internet through affiliate marketing is all about getting cash in your pockets for selling products you don’t own and at the same time not going to jail for it. Someone else goes through all of the trouble to make the software programs, service, e-Book or digital content products. They make the product, you sell it for them and earn commission.
Affiliate marketing is a revenue sharing agreement between the product developer, known as the affiliate merchant, and the affiliate marketer who is anyone that’s wanting to promote the sale of product by advertising the product using any type of legal means there are.
Many affiliates are different and they all have their own guidelines. But in most cases they will only pay you for your advertising of their product if it results in a sale. So the more sales the marketer is able to get the more money the marketer will make.
Once you make a sale you will more than likely have to wait a month before you see the money in your pocket, all depending on the affiliate merchant of course. Sales are tracked by either special links, cookies, software or all of the above to ensure that you get your commission.
The amount of money you make will directly tied to how well your selected product or service sells, and the size of the commission you earn, which makes it very vital that you choose carefully when it comes to choosing the affiliate merchant you’ll be partnering with.
Select programs that you aren’t embarrassed to promote and programs that you’ll feel comfortable recommending to your family and friends if they were to ask you about it.
If you are starting out as an affiliate marketer I would recommend that you choose a product that you are comfortable with, something that you already know about. This will make things easier when writing articles or ads, as you get more understanding on how to promote stuff you can move on to other products.
To make things easier on you pick an affiliate merchant that already has a page of promotion tools. These can include banners and links, maybe even videos, which will be sure to up conversion rates if they are done properly.
For most digital products, and digital software you can expect commissions of about 50%, although every affiliate is different. Some of the places that you can start browsing for programs and products to promote are CJ and Clickbank, there are many more though so do not limit yourself to just those two.
