Is A Trade Show Display Rental Right For Everybody?
Monday, July 13th, 2009
Trade show exhibit rentals are becoming an increasingly attractive option as more and more exhibitors are opting to rent instead of purchasing a booth. Rental an exhibit is not for everyone? Let's examine the pros and cons of exhibit rentals.
The advantages of renting start with the price. As a general rule of thumb a display rental will cost about one third of the purchase price. Renting makes sense for many companies but the question is whether it makes sense for you. Some of the other positives include: 1). Storing the booth will not be your job, 2). You don’t have to worry about damage. Shipping damage is always a concern but after the trade show it will be the rental company that has to do the repairs and you won't have to pay for them. 3) Any damage to the booth caused by careless fork lift drivers will not be your responsibility. 4). You don't have to worry about hiring show labor. Yes, you’ll have to pay for electrical services but everything else will be the responsibility of the exhibit house. 5). You can leave the exhibit hall when the show ends because you don't have to manage the dismantling and shipping paperwork. It's the overall convenience of an exhibit rental that is making them so popular these days.
The disadvantages of trade show display rentals, especially with the lower end models, has to do with design options. Nothing beats a well designed custom exhibit with large format company logos and graphics. Most exhibit rentals from the show tend to be more off the shelf and similar in appearance. In renting from the show contractor you will have the possibility that your neighbor will have the exact same rental. Show contractor's carpet is often in worse condition. A external exhibit rental business will have different and in most cases better rental inventory which will alleviate some of these concerns. In addition, an exhibit company that is privately owned will likely have higher standards and properties in better condition. We suggest choosing a rental that will allow for a lot of your own custom graphics. If you want a custom looking exhibit invest in as many mural graphics as your budget will allow. Lastly, renting makes more financial sense for companies that only do a couple shows a year. Having the choice of just showing up for the show and leaving when it's finished will offset this for some.
