There are thousands of new blogs started every day, and that number is growing consistently. It’s so easy for anyone to set up a blog now that there are very few potential barriers, contributing to the huge number that are launched each day. Some bloggers are personal and others are for business. Those that are for business will need to find ways to attract visitors if they are to be successful.
With so many blogs out there it can be much more difficult than most people expect to start attracting visitors. The launch phase of a blog is critical because it gives you the opportunity to promote your new blog and to show people why they should pay attention to you. With an effective launch you will be able to get some readers and links, and you’ll be on your way towards success.
The article is dedicated to providing information on a few things you can focus on as a new blogger to get started quickly.
1. Notify Friends and Family
For many people, starting by promoting your site to friends and family is a great way to get a few people to visit the site and to start things in the right direction. These people will know you and will take an interest in what you are doing, and they may even become regular readers if they like the topics you are covering.
2. Link to Your New Blog from Your Other Sites
If you have built other websites or blogs at this point, you should take the time to add links to your new blog (assuming the sites cover topics that are at least somewhat related). Having multiple sites makes it easier to get a little bit of attention for a new site or blog, so take advantage of it if this is the case for you.
For those of you who do not have other websites or blogs, although this may seem like a disadvantage, don’t be discouraged. You have to start somewhere. In the future, as you add new blogs and websites you’ll be better off since you will already have this blog to help out.
3. Link to Your Blog from Your Social Media Profiles
Most bloggers are active at at least a few social networking or social media sites. If this is the case with you, be sure to take a few minutes and link to your blog from all of your profiles. And if you do not have any profiles, find a few social sites that you want to use, create and account and add a link (and of course, be active at the networking site).
The amount of traffic that you will receive from these links will not be significant, but they will be decent quality visitors and it can get your link building efforts started on the right track.
4. Write Posts that Target Social Media Users
There are any number of different ways that you can get people to visit your blog. Search engine traffic is highly sought after, but it takes time to build your site’s reputation with the search engines and develop any type of substantial search traffic. Links and recommendations from other sites are great too, but that also will take time (unless you are already well connected).
Social media is a great resource for new bloggers because with the right type of content, and with quality content, exposure to a very large number of people is possible, and free. New blogs can quickly become recognized in their industry with a few posts that generate interest from social media users.
Although social media has huge potential, many bloggers get poor results. Submitting the wrong types of content or not being genuinely involved at the social media site will likely lead to failure. Take the time to get familiar with the social media audience, and write quality content that appeals to their interests.
5. Leave Comments on Other Blogs
Blog commenting is a proven way to help increase the exposure of a new blog. With well-thought-out comments and feedback you can catch the attention of the other blogger, plus all of the readers that browse through the comments.
The key with commenting is to leave comments that add something to the post of provide some type of valuable insight or discussion. The majority of blog comments tend to be something like “Great post!”, which adds no real value and will not encourage anyone to click through and visit your site.
6. Network with Other Bloggers
All highly successful bloggers are well-connected with others in their niche. Building a network is one of the most important things you will do throughout the life of your blog.
If you want to network with other bloggers you can start by commenting regularly on their blogs so they’ll start to get to know you. Other than that, you can be active at social networking sites, and also you can simply reach out to them by email to introduce yourself and see what happens from there.
