Make Marketing Fun
The overwhelming majority of small business owners that I’ve interviewed struggle with marketing and making it fun.
Marketing is hard work. But thanks to marketing mentors and coaches it can be alot easier than you think. Alot more fun though. When done right, marketing can be very rewarding and actually become easy.
If you’re not excited about your marketing, chances are your marketing needs to overhauled. First and foremost you need to make it fun.
Make Marketing Fun
Here are some great tips on how to make marketing fun.
* Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are fun to keep, even more fun to beat. Keep track of the # of clients, prospects, and revenue.
* Marketing Calendar - Make marketing fun and real. Stop talking about what you’re going to do and put it into action. Schedule all your marketing tactics for the year, ahead of time, monitor them and motivate staff with all the marketing buzz about to be unleashed.
* Sales Board - Keep track of your results for each day/week/month/quarter. How many calls did you take? How many prospects came into the sales funnel? How many new customers signed on?
* Attend Marketing Seminars - Learn more about marketing and seek out a coach and mentor that can put your marketing on steroids. Visit www.MarketingWorkshops.ca for a list of upcoming Marketing Events.
* Rewards - For you and your staff. Set milestones and targets for your new KPIs above and set corresponding rewards. For example, all-time appointments in one week could equal a luncheon brought in for your staff. Sales records hit for this month = a gift certificate for all your team members, and so on.
* Prizes and Competition - What have you done for your staff lately? What have you done for yourself? Everyone loves a bonus and perk and you’ll find people work harder and have more fun doing so.
* Referral Program - Introduce a family and friends discount for your staff. Kick it up a notch and offer a commission to your staff for bringing in new business. Post the results in the lunch room and watch the staff get excited about who is going to win that trip to Hawaii for the all-time best sales quarter. The best part is you get to write it off and you qualify as well!
* Set Goals - Without goals, any road will take you there. Many small business owners lack the other, more important set of goals. Marketing Goals. For example, promotions, newsletters, campaigns, for this week/month/quarter. It’s alot more fun then it sounds, so roll up your sleeves and get planning.
* Mentors and Coaches - Find someone that has walked in your shoes and can bring you to the next level. You’ll spend less time, money, and effort, and you get great results.
* Conversion Tracking - Results need to be measurable and conversions need to be tracked, but not in your head or by your accountant. Save yourself stress, time, energy, and money and keep important marketing numbers. It’s more fun making decisions based on good data!
* Promote Promote Promote - Holidays, Open Houses, Specials. Find a reason and put a spin on it that makes doing business with you fun and exciting.
What if you’ve tried it all and you’re still not having fun marketing?
You’ve either not implemented all of the above or there are key elements missing. Marketing isn’t easy and you don’t have to do it all on your own. Get smart, get savvy, get results… Get yourself a coach that will bring you to the next level.
